2009 HYUNDAI ACCENT: An inexpensive subcompact, the Accent can be ordered as a four-door sedan (GLS) or as a two-door hatchback (GS and SE). The hatchback’s cargo space is 15.9 cubic feet, and the sedan comes with a 12.4-cubic-foot trunk. The front-wheel-drive, five-passenger Accent has a peppy 110-horsepower, 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine (continuously variable valve timing) mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Standard safety equipment includes front side and curtain-side airbags as well as frontal airbags. Another plus is a strong warranty of five years or 60,000 miles (limited), and 10 years or 100,000 miles on the powertrain. Look for availability of XM Satellite Radio with three months of free service, and a redesigned instrument cluster for GLS and SE, and a sport shifter on the SE.
