2009 BMW 1 SERIES: BMW's 1 Series Coupe, combines sporty rear-wheel-drive dynamics, agile handling, powerful engines and seating for four. The 1 Series Coupe reinvents the niche that the legendary BMW 2002 created 40 years ago, and comes available in two versions. The 128i Coupe is propelled by a 230 horsepower, 3.0-liter six-cylinder, while the more powerful 135i Coupe features a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that produces 300 horses and 300 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are offered with a choice of either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. For 2009, a new heated steering wheel is part of the cold weather package on the 128i and as a standing option on the 135i. On the minus side, active steering is no longer offered on the 128i. All seats within the 1 Series Coupe are fitted with three-point inertia-reel seat belts and buyers can select from two upholstery options—sporty and comfortable leatherette or rich Boston Leather.
