2009 KIA BORREGO: Kia’s newest addition to its line-up is the Borrego midsize SUV. It houses Kia’s first-ever V-8 engine, making it the most powerful Kia vehicle to date. Engine selections include a 3.8-liter V-6 as well as the 300 horsepower, 4.6-liter V-8 that is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Offered in two- and four-wheel drive, the Borrego can tow 7,500 lbs with the V-8, or 5,000 lbs with the V-6. Based on styling cues from the Mesa concept vehicle exhibited at the ’05 Chicago Auto Show, the Borrego has body-on-frame construction and muscular exterior. Flared back headlamps, an upright grille and chiseled hood project a strong presence, while optional 18-inch alloy wheels offer increased off-road capabilities. The Borrego offers a roomy interior with standard three rows of seating for up to seven passengers.
